Authorities said a man died in an early-morning single-vehicle crash Tuesday near Olive Branch.
Anthony T. Duncan, 34, of Cairo, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, the Illinois State Police reported. No other vehicles were involved in the wreck and no additional injuries were reported.
Troopers said Duncan was driving south on Illinois 3 at about 1 a.m. Tuesday near East Side Drive when he lost control of his vehicle. The vehicle entered a ditch, rolled and then struck a tree, according to authorities.
Duncan was pronounced dead from his injuries at the scene, the Illinois State Police reported. Authorities did not say whether Duncan was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the wreck.
The post-crash investigation caused a shutdown of the highway for about two hours. Authorities often attempt to reconstruct the scene of the crash, particularly in cases in which a person or multiple people are killed, to help them determine the circumstances that led to the incident.
Troopers from the state agency are continuing the investigation into the incident. Few details have been released about the crash, and it’s unclear what authorities believe contributed to Duncan losing control of his vehicle.
