Authorities: James Douglas Killed In Wreck Monday In Randolph County

Authorities said a Coulterville man died after a single-vehicle wreck Monday morning in Randolph County.

James A. Douglas II, 35, died in the crash Monday on South Prairie Road, the Illinois State Police said in a press release issued after the wreck. No other injuries were reported as a result of the crash.

According to troopers, Douglas at about 8 a.m. Monday was driving south on South Prairie Road near Ohlwine Road when he lost control of his vehicle. The van veered off the roadway, went behind a guardrail and struck a ditch embankment, investigators reported.

Douglas was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, authorities reported, and he suffered fatal injuries. He later was pronounced dead by officials from the Randolph County Coroner’s Office.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash, authorities said. Investigators from the Illinois State Police did not reveal what factors, such as speed or roadway conditions, might have contributed to Douglas losing control of his vehicle.

It wasn’t clear from the Illinois State Press report whether Douglas died at the scene or if he was transported to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The investigation is ongoing.
