Benjamin Plasky Identified as the Fatal Victim of a Traffic Accident in Wauconda

The man killed after he drove into the wrong lane and collided with a delivery truck in Wauconda, Illinois, has been identified as 21-year-old Benjamin Plasky of McHenry. The Lake County Coroner’s Office confirmed the identification on Thursday, September 24th.

The autopsy result disclosed that the victim died of multiple blunt force injuries. The crash occurred on Route 12 near Route 59 on Friday, September 18th. The Wauconda Fire District and the Wauconda Police Department responded to the crash around 2:56 a.m.

When they arrived at the scene, they found a white Mitsubishi Eclipse, driven by Plasky, and a green International delivery truck crashed into each other. A preliminary investigation uncovered that the car was northbound on R-12, with the Mitsubishi heading southbound on the same roadway.

WPD Public Relations Officer Heather Cognac said Plasky crossed the center median for an unknown reason and collided with the truck head-on in the northbound lanes. The victim died at the scene.

The 62-year-old man driving the truck did not sustain any injury. The  Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT), Lake County Sheriff’s Office, Lake Zurich Police Department, Island Lake Police Department, and Mundelein Police Department assisted the Wauconda Police and fire department at the scene.

Plasky’s family described him as someone who loves hanging out with his family and friends, playing video games, and working on his cars. He left behind his mother, father, three brothers, and a girlfriend. The investigation is ongoing.
