Police: Perry Booker Pronounced Dead From Gunshot Wound Following Chicago Wreck

A 20-year-old Chicago man was pronounced dead from a gunshot wound shortly after he was found behind the wheel of a vehicle that crashed into multiple parked vehicles Saturday night.

Perry Booker Jr. was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital shortly after the crash Saturday in the 3800 block of Elm Street, according to police. Multiple passengers in his vehicle sustained minor injuries as a result of the crash, authorities said.

A “shotspotter,” a device that uses acoustic technology to detect the sound of nearby gunfire, alerted authorities to multiple gunshots in the area of the crash, according to authorities. Police arrived on scene and found Booker sitting behind the wheel suffering from a gunshot wound, investigators said.

“(Booker) was unresponsive and appeared to have suffered a gunshot wound to the neck area,” police wrote in a press release. “(Booker) was transported to St. Catherine Hospital for treatment, where he later succumbed to his wounds.”

Booker reportedly had four passengers, none of whom were identified publicly by authorities, in his vehicle. Two of them were transported to a St. Catherine’s Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, police said.

“If anyone has information in regards to this homicide, please contact our anonymous tip line at 219-391-8318,” East Chicago police said in a press release.
