Jaime Banuelo and his wife Maricela were knocked unconscious, and their food truck severely damaged, after it was hit from behind by a stolen car on Saturday night.
The accident occurred outside the Continental Lounge on the 2800 block of West Chicago Avenue, in the Humboldt Park neighborhood of Chicago. The stolen car was driven by Marcus Cammon, 25, who had sped through an intersection immediately before the crash.
Following the collision, staff at the Continental Lounge helped detain Cammon. He is now facing several criminal charges, including possession of a stolen vehicle and driving without having been issued a license. Because he was carrying a crossbow with arrows, he is also being charged with unauthorized use of a weapon.
Banuelo’s three children were nearby and witnessed the crash, but were not injured.
Jaime had been dependent on the food truck for an income, and he is now facing economic hardship as a result of the crash. Those who are interested can donate to a GoFundMe page set up by Continental employees to help Jaime recover his business.
