Christopher Davis Injured in Vehicle-Train Collision in Chicago

On Wednesday night, February 12th, a 19-year-old male, Christopher Davis, got hit by a vehicle that got struck by a train. He was standing at the intersection of Pulaski Road and 87th Street on the Southside of Chicago, Illinois, when the accident happened.

Surveillance video at the intersection showed the Metra train line crossing gate closing down on the vehicle’s trunk. The driver of the car whose identity is unknown at this time tried to reverse but ended up driving straight into the path of the oncoming train.

The train struck the car, and Davis, who was waiting to cross the intersection, got hit. The impact threw the teenager under the train where he got pinned.

First responders were able to get Davis out from under the train and rushed him to a nearby hospital. He was critically injured, and so far, has not been responding to treatment.

The driver of the vehicle and two other unidentified people were also critically injured, and undergoing treatment. Vehicle-train collision is not very common in Illinois, but it is regular enough for the government to create awareness.

Accident report compiled by Illinois Operation Lifesaver shows that each year, no less than 80 people get killed in train-related accidents. The goal of the IOL is to reduce collisions, injuries, and deaths.

It educates people of all ages to stay away from railroad tracks and avoid playing on or around them. Railways are privately owned properties, and those caught trespassing are liable to a fine not less than $150 for a first offender.
