Coroner Identifies Joshua Swears, Three Others as Carlinville Air Crash Victims

Joshua Swears

On Sunday, May 31st, the authorities in Macoupin County disclosed the name of the four people whose lives ended in a fatal aircraft crash in the Carlinville area of Illinois. The coroner released their names in the accident report update as 35-year-old Michigan resident, Joshua Swears, 37-year-old Daniel Shedd, 39-year-old Daniel Schlosser, of Michigan, and New Yorker, 39-year-old John Camilleri.

The county officials said in a press release that Joshua Swears was flying the group of four to an unknown destination in a small single-engine plane on Saturday, May 30th. When the aircraft was above a farm off Wonderland Ranch Road, it crashed for reasons the authorities have not uncovered.

All four passengers passed away at the crash site, and the county coroner and the Macoupin County Sheriff’s Department worked together to identify the victims. The police are working with the Federal Aviation Administration to uncover what led to the death of Swears, Shedd, Schlosser, and Camilleri.

Aircraft crashes are not as frequent as other forms of accidents, but due to the built and nature of a plane, it results in severe or fatal injuries. Negligence is the common reason for most aircraft crashes, and it falls mostly on the part of the pilot.

Accident reports show that a pilot’s inability to navigate a plane or read the equipment accurately can cause a crash. Unpredictable weather like sheer guts of wind, freezing ice storms, thunderstorms, or lightning also contributes. Others are improper maintenance of the aircraft, a faulty engine, defect in the design, and inaccurate data from the air traffic controller.
