Authorities have identified the teen killed in a two-vehicle crash Monday morning in Bolingbrook.
Colin T. Montrose, 17, of Bolingbrook, was pronounced dead just after 8 a.m. Monday at Amita Bolingbrook Hospital, according to officials from the Will County Coroner’s Office. A final report detailing the cause and manner of death will be issued at a later debate, they said.
Authorities said Montrose was a passenger in a vehicle involved in a two-car crash on Boughton Road near Whitewater Drive. Identifying information for the other people involved in the wreck, including both drivers, wasn’t released by investigators.
Police said the drivers in both vehicles suffered serious injuries. The Bolingbrook Police Traffic Unit is investigating the incident, according to authorities.
According to Montrose’s obituary, the teen was just a few weeks away from his 18th birthday at the time of his death. A GoFundMe campaign was established to help his family cover funeral and other expenses.
“No one imagines they are going to have to bury a 17-year-old, and when it does happen, that becomes a nightmare,” campaign organizers wrote in an informational post. “We are collecting for very unexpected funeral costs.”
As of Tuesday evening, organizers had raised more than $8,500 toward a $15,000 goal.
“Read that one extra bedtime story, give that extra hug, never go to bed angry and make sure to always say, ‘I love you,’” organizers wrote in an update to the campaign. “Tomorrow is not a guarantee and those you love may not be here.”
