A motorcyclist sustained fatal injuries last weekend when he drove his motorbike off the road and struck an electric pole in Bloomington, Illinois. The McLean County Coroner’s Office, on Monday, May 18, disclosed the deceased’s identity as David L. Patterson, a 47-year-old resident of Bloomington.
McLean County authorities said a call came in at about 1:14 p.m. on Saturday, May 16, reporting a solo motorcycle crash on Hamilton Road, near State Farm Plaza South.
Initial reports showed the victim was the rider and sole occupant of a motorcycle, which was traveling through Hamilton road. For unknown reasons, the biker lost control of his two-wheeled vehicle, causing it to swerve sideways to the shoulder of the road, where it slammed into a light pole and became disabled.
The motorcycle operator ended up fatally injured, and medical personnel pronounced him dead at precisely 1:41 p.m. McLean County Coroner Kathleen Yoder ruled his cause of death as blunt force injuries sustained in the violent collision.
The Illinois State Police and fire department personnel also responded at the scene and assisted in the rescue operation and on-site investigation.
Officers did not immediately establish whether drugs or alcohol contributed to Patterson’s accident. The results of the toxicology carried out on the victim would confirm his impairment status.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
Investigators would also look into possible factors like speed, distracted driving, and mechanical faults. Updated accident reports would include any additional findings.
