On Monday, February 17th, the Chicago Police Department and Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office released the name of the man who died from a single-vehicle car crash in Chicago, Illinois. He was identified as 37-year-old, Darius Westbrooks.
An autopsy report from the examiner’s office showed that the deceased passed away from the injuries sustained during his crash. The death was ruled as an accident, and there is no toxicology report.
Westbrooks was involved in an accident on Sunday, February 16th, at about 3:30 a.m. He was driving a 2012 Cadillac in the first block of North Cicero Avenue when he lost control of his car and crashed into a light pole.
First responders at the scene took the deceased to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries an hour later. The CPD Major Accident Unit is investigating the cause of the accident.
Accidents are a daily occurrence in Chicago, Illinois. According to the Illinois Department of Transportation, most of the crashes that happen in the state are due to drivers with high blood alcohol content.
The next common cause of vehicular accidents is the high speed by drivers. Distractions like the use of a cell phone while driving, running red traffic lights, speeding through intersections is also a common cause.

Government traffic and road agencies have advised drivers to pay rapt attention while driving. They should avoid every means of distraction, and ensure that they operate within the speed limit and with little or no alcohol in their system.
