David Martin Dies In Single-Vehicle Crash On Western Springs Interstate

Miguel Rodriguez

Authorities have identified the man killed in a single-vehicle crash Monday afternoon in Western Springs.

David S. Martin, 66, of Beach Park, Ill., was pronounced dead at the scene of the wreck, according to officials from the Western Springs Police Department. Car accident reports do not list any other injuries and no other vehicles were involved in the wreck.

Authorities believe Martin was driving north on Interstate 294 at about 3 p.m. Monday when he attempted to exit at Ogden Avenue. Car accident reports state Martin struck a guardrail, went onto Ogden Avenue and crashed into a tree near the Bemis Woods Cook County Forest Preserve.

Emergency medical personnel were to the scene, according to a press release. However, they determined Martin “had no signs of life,” the release stated.

No one else was in the vehicle at the time of the crash, according to car accident reports.

“The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office has determined that Mr. Martin died from blunt-force trauma resulting from the impact with the tree,” investigators wrote in the press release.

The incident remains under investigation by the Western Springs Police Department. Car accident reports available Tuesday do not say whether factors like speed, inattentive driving or intoxication are thought to have contributed to the wreck.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Western Springs Police Department at 708-246-8540. Authorities will release more details if they become available.
