Michael Leibold Injured In Single-Vehicle Motorcycle Crash Sunday Near East Dubuque

Authorities said a motorcyclist was seriously injured Sunday in a crash in rural East Dubuque in Jo Daviess County.

Thirty-eight-year-old Michael J. Leibold, of East Dubuque, was taken to a Dubuque hospital before being airlifted to an Iowa City trauma center, according to the Jo Daviess County Sheriff’s Department. No other vehicles were involved and no additional injuries were listed on car accident reports available Monday.

Deputies said Leibold was found injured and unresponsive on North Badger Road near Ridge Drive at about 6:20 a.m. Sunday. According to car accident reports, he had somehow wrecked his motorcycle and that no other vehicles were involved.

He was transported to MercyOne Medical Center in Dubuque before being airlifted to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. An updated condition report for Leibold was not available Monday night.

The incident remains under investigation by the Jo Daviess County Sheriff’s Department. Authorities have provided few details about what led to the crash, nor have they said whether they suspect the involvement of contributing factors like intoxication, excessive speed or inattentive driving.

However, deputies did announce that Leibold will face a charge of driving with a suspended license. It is unclear if additional charges or citations are forthcoming.
