The Illinois State Police responded to the scene of a two-vehicle collision in Effingham County, Illinois, on Thursday, October 1st. In the car accident report, they stated that 65-year-old Michael E. Schulz of Davenport, Florida, died in the incident.
The crash took place at approximately 1:54 p.m. at the intersection of 2300 Street and 1200 Avenue. The state police said that the Effingham County Coroner pronounced Schulz dead at the crash site.
The preliminary investigation disclosed that the victim was southbound on Effingham County N 2300 in a 2006 Dodge Dakota when he crossed the centerline. The act caused him to strike a 2001 International truck head-on.
The truck driver, identified as Prather J. Weidner, 62, of Effingham, sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Medics conveyed the man to HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital for treatment.
The police said that the coroner’s office scheduled an autopsy for Friday, October 2nd, and a toxicology test is pending. The ISP Traffic Reconstruction Unit responded at the accident scene, and they are heading the investigation.
Other agencies at the scene include the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office, Dieterich Fire Department, and the Abbot EMS. There is no additional information.
