Authorities have released the name of the man killed in a single-vehicle semi-tractor trailer wreck Monday morning on a U.S. 20 exit ramp in Winnebago County.
Eston Preston, 71, of Lanark, was pronounced dead at the scene of the wreck, according to the Winnebago County Coroner’s Office. No other vehicles were involved in the incident and no additional injuries were reported.
Investigators said Preson was driving south on the U.S. 20 entrance ramp to Interstate 39 at about 9:15 Monday morning when he lost control of his semi. The truck went off the roadway and rolled over, coming to rest upside down.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene, but Preston was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the coroner’s office. The ramp was shut down for about two hours while investigators worked at the scene.
The incident still is under investigation. Authorities have not disclosed whether factors such as speed, road conditions or intoxication might have contributed to the incident.
Accident reports from the Illinois State Patrol that were available Tuesday evening did not include additional details.
A friend posted a tribute to Preston on Facebook.
“Eston was one hell of a good man,” the person wrote. “Prayers for all his family.”
