On Thursday, August 6th, the Cook County State’s Attorney Office revealed that they charged a man with aggravated driving under the influence and killing his girlfriend in a crash in Chicago, Illinois. Ignacio Soriano-Saldivar, 29, of Glenview, would need the representation of a drunk driving attorney.
The State Attorney’s Office said that on Sunday, August 2nd, at about 8:30 p.m., the suspect drove a 2015 Nissan Rogue northbound on Lake Shore Drive near the Museum of Science and Industry in Hyde Park. He operated the vehicle at 90 miles per hour and lost control of it around a curve at 57th Street.
Soriano-Saldivar swerved into the opposite traffic lane, jumped a curb, and struck a tree. The force of the collision and lack of seatbelt use ejected the driver from the car. He sustained injuries and medics rushed him to the University of Chicago Medical Center where he is receiving treatment for spinal cord injury.
The passenger in the vehicle, Rebecca Bordenaro, 28, of Glenview, suffered multiple blunt force injuries. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office said the victim died at about 9:35 p.m. at the UCMC.
The attorney’s office said that Soriano-Saldivar had a blood alcohol level of .14%, which is double the legal limit. The suspect has a DUI arrest from 2014, and facts from the accident report showed he tried accelerating before the accident and did not apply brakes until within 1.5 seconds of impacting the tree.
A county judge remanded the man in jail on a $50 000 bail bond, and he would appear in court on Monday, August 24th.
