The Illinois State Police said in a press release on Wednesday, August 26th, that a man died in a solo crash on Interstate 57 in the Iroquois area of Illinois. They identified the man as Frank Horn, a 70-year-old Burbank resident.
The car accident report disclosed that the crash happened at approximately 12:30 p.m. on the interstate’s northbound lane at milepost 283.5 near Gilman. The ISP said that Horn headed north in the right lane when the vehicle went off the road and struck a fence.
The car went on to hit a tree before resting. Horn’s wounds claimed his life at the scene, and the medics pronounced him dead. A passenger in the wrecked car, identified as Joyce Dahl, a 79-year-old resident of Oak Lawn, suffered injuries and received treatment in the hospital.
A motor vehicle accident or traffic collision occurs when a car collides with another or strikes a pedestrian, or a stationary object like road debris, signpost, pole, fence, mailbox, or a tree. There are different types of accidents, and they include single-vehicle crashes and two-vehicle collisions.
Others are multiple-vehicle collisions, auto-pedestrian collisions, auto-motorcycle collisions, and auto-train collisions. Common causes of accidents are impairment due to alcohol consumption or drug usage, speeding, running red lights and stop signs, and distracted driving.
Drivers are distracted when they eat, text, call, or have heated conversations when driving, and it takes a distracted motorist about three seconds to crash. Thus, drivers should pay attention when on the road and desist from acts that are likely to cause accidents.
