A man who was struck by a semi-tractor trailer Tuesday morning on an interstate in Grundy County has died, according to local authorities.
Twenty-year-old Jake Enblom, of Chicago, died as a result of injuries sustained in the wreck, the Grundy County Coroner’s Office reported. No other injuries related to the crash were listed on car accident reports available Tuesday afternoon.
Authorities said Enblom was driving east on Interstate 80 near mile marker 105 at about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday when he lost control of his vehicle. The car veered off the road, striking a guardrail, according to car accident reports.
According to the Illinois State Police, Enblom pulled over and got out of his vehicle. As he was walking in the eastbound lane of traffic, he was struck by a semi, car accident reports state.
Enblom was transported to an area hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries, coroner’s office officials reported. However, he was pronounced dead from his injuries upon arrival.
Authorities have not publicly identified the driver of the semi, nor have they said whether the driver reported any injuries.
The incident remains under investigation by the coroner’s office and the Illinois State Police. Authorities have not said whether either driver is suspected of using intoxicants, speeding or driving while distracted just prior to the wreck.
