The Peoria County Coroner on Tuesday, August 4th, identified the man killed in a traffic accident in the Bartonville area of Illinois. Coroner Jamie Harwood said that Jamie Lynn Harper, 56, of Tucson, Arizona, died on Monday afternoon, August 3rd, at the scene of the wreck.
Harwood said that the woman died from multiple blunt force injuries sustained in the incident, and the toxicology test is pending. He stated that Harper’s family informed his office that she was in Illinois to visit family and friends.
The Peoria County Sheriff Brian Asbell said in the car accident report that a 16-year-old driver from Groveland operated the car involved in the crash. At about 1:15 p.m. Monday, Harper, the teenage driver and another 15-year-old teen from Bartonville, crashed in the 5000-block of South Airport Road, near the intersection with South Dietrich Lane.
The trio were headed southbound on Airport Rd. when they went several hundred feet off the road and struck several mailboxes and trees on the east side of the roadway. The police cited the teenage driver for driving too fast for conditions.
Asbell said that the teen might face additional charges after the District Attorney’s Office completes a review of the case. The sheriff’s office will release an update as events unfold. Under Arizona law, accidents of this nature can also lead to a charge of vehicular manslaughter. The penalties are severe, and offenders might end up in prison.
