Authorities said an Arkansas woman faces multiple citations for her role in a crash Monday in Effingham County in which she and eight passengers were injured.
Kimyada Hunter, 40, of Marianna, Ark., was injured in a single-vehicle crash that occurred at about 7:10 p.m. Monday on Interstate 57, the Illinois State Police reported. She and her eight passengers – four of whom were children age 7 and younger – were hospitalized with varying degrees of injuries, according to car accident reports.
Troopers said Hunter was driving south on Interstate 57 near mile marker 157 at about 7:10 p.m. Monday when her vehicle went off the roadway and crashed. According to car accident reports, Hunter told investigators that she had to swerve to avoid a collision with another vehicle.
Hunter reportedly sustained non-life-threatening injuries, as did passengers Deidra Miller, 32, of Bellwood, and Markem Clark, 28, of Chicago. Car accident reports state Yakita Hunter, 26, and Miracle Hunter, 18, both of Marianna, Ark., also suffered minor injuries.
Troopers said three children aged 2 to 4 years old were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. A 7-year-old passenger was taken via air ambulance to a trauma center for treatment of wounds described as life-threatening.
Kimyada Hunter was issued citations for operating an uninsured motor vehicle and improper lane usage, as well as four counts of failure to secure children in a child restraint device.
