Kristine Kilmer Killed, Laura Burdick Injured In Crash Near Winnetka


One woman was killed and another seriously injured in a two-vehicle wreck Saturday night on an interstate near Winnetka, according to State of Illinois authorities.

Kristine M. Kilmer, 45, of Lake Forest, died as a result of injuries suffered in the wreck, which occurred shortly before 10 p.m. Saturday on Interstate 94, the Illinois State Police reported. Car accident reports state the other driver in the wreck also suffered serious injuries that required hospitalization.

Troopers said Kilmer was driving south on Interstate 94 near Tower Road at about 9:45 p.m. Saturday when she lost control of her vehicle. The car rolled over and continued rolling off the interstate and onto a nearby frontage road, according to car accident reports.

Kilmer’s vehicle rolled into the path of a car driven by Laura K. Burdick, 32, of Indianapolis, troopers said. The two vehicles then collided, car accident reports state.

Kilmer was pronounced dead at the scene of the wreck, authorities reported. Burdick suffered serious injuries and was transported to an area hospital for treatment. Updated condition reports weren’t available Sunday evening.

The Illinois State Police continues to investigate the incident. Authorities have not yet said what caused Kilmer to lose control of her vehicle, and car accident reports do not say whether investigators suspect the involvement of contributing factors like intoxication, excessive speeding or inattentive driving.
