A man sustained injuries when a car he had stolen ran into an accident. The man was identified by the authorities as Levi Cain, 27, of Quincy as per the preliminary accident reports.
Cain was driving a vehicle on the State Highway 106 when he appears to have lost control of it. The incident occurred close to Barry, Illinois. The single-vehicle crash involved no other vehicles or persons. It was reported to the authorities around 7 a.m. on Sunday, July 19. Cain sustained non-serious injuries in the crash.
Once the first responders arrived on the scene of the accident, Levi Cain was transported to the Illini Hospital to receive treatment for his injuries. According to the Pike County Sheriff’s Department, investigations into the accident revealed that Cain had been driving a stolen vehicle. As the law enforcement personnel arrived at the hospital to investigate, Cain had already left the hospital.
He then stole a second car which he used to escape. The car was located by the deputies, which led to a pursuit. The pursuit began near Pittsfield and continued all the way from the Pike County into the Adams County. However, it was then called off near Quincy. Cain was able to escape and still remains at large.
Arrest warrants for him have been issued in both the Adams County and the Pike County. The Pike County Sheriff’s Department is seeking information from any witnesses who may know about the whereabouts of the suspect. It remains to be seen in subsequent accident reports what charges Cain may face once, and if, he is apprehended.
