Richard Vaughn Identified as Livingston County Auto-Motorcycle Accident Victim

The motorcycle rider who lost his life in a crash in Livingston County, Illinois, has been identified. On Monday, June 29th, the Livingston County Coroner Danny Watson revealed the victim’s name in updated accident reports as Richard Vaughn, a 77-year-old Dwight resident.

The man passed away on Saturday, June 27th, at about 4 p.m. from injuries sustained in the incident. The coroner said that the accident happened at the junction of Old Route 66 and Redwood Road, and Vaughn was the only fatal victim.

According to the Illinois State Police, Tyler Blackard, 20, of Pontiac, began the chain of events that led to the accident. The man was driving a 2010 Jeep westbound on East 1830 North Road. When he arrived at the intersection of the road with Route 66, he disobeyed a stop sign and struck a southbound 2002 Suzuki motorcycle driven by Vaughn.

Blackard and his 15-year-old passenger did not sustain any injury, and the driver received citations for failure to yield at a stopped intersection and failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash. The accident led to the closure of the crossing for approximately four hours while the ISP investigated.

Auto-motorcycle accidents are never favorable to the motorcycle rider who gets ejected when a collision occurs. Older passengers are more likely to suffer fatal injuries than younger riders; thus, they must ride carefully and within the legal speed limit. They should also have a US-DOT compliant helmet safely fastened and wear protective apparel.
