A single-vehicle collision in Marion County, Illinois, claimed three lives this week, the Illinois State Police reported. The crash took place on the afternoon of Wednesday, August 19th.
The reports of the car accident obtained from the ISP showed that five people were traveling in a car on the southbound Interstate 57. A 41-year-old man from Green Bay, Wisconsin, was behind the wheels of the vehicle, which crashed at about 4:50 p.m.
Three occupants of the vehicle suffered fatal injuries, and the emergency responders pronounced them deceased at the scene. The ISP identified them as Sherie Simmons, 40, and Mattie Simmons, 63, both of Sledge, Mississippi, and the driver, Ezell Smith.
According to the ISP, the car drove off the interstate near the Kinmundy/Patoka Blacktop and drifted to the right. It halted only after crashing head-on into a tree.
Two children from Cottage, Mississippi, aged 11-month-old, and 2-year-old sustained life-threatening injuries. An air ambulance conveyed them to a hospital for treatment.The ISP is investigating to establish what caused the vehicle to leave the road.
