Illinois State Police has released the identities of two individuals who lost their lives in a fatal crash that took place on Wednesday, April 15. Identification details were shared by ISP on Thursday, April 16. One of the drivers involved in the crash was held responsible for negligence by ISP. This means that the surviving family of the victims may seek compensation with the help of a car accident lawyer.
As per these details, the victims have been identified as Orson K. Kramer, 79, and Judith A. Kramer, 81. Both victims were from Ozark, Illinois.
The car accident in which both victims lost their life occurred on Illinois 166 around 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday. The Kramers were traveling southbound on I-166. Another vehicle driven by Casey L. Odum, 54, of Creal Springs was traveling northbound on the road. As both vehicles were due to cross each other close to Creal Springs, Odum lost control of his vehicle for some reason.
His vehicle, which was identified as a pickup, veered across the center line and came into the path of the oncoming traffic. It was then that it collided head-on with the Kramers’ vehicle. The Kramers sustained critical injuries in the crash. Once first responders and law enforcement arrived on the scene of the crash, they were pronounced dead.
Odum was also seriously injured in the collision. After receiving basic medical treatment from first responders, he was airlifted to a regional hospital. According to ISP, he remains under treatment for severe injuries.
Preliminary investigations show that Odum’s negligence caused the crash. ISP has cited him for failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash and improper lane usage. Given these findings, any surviving family of Kramers may be entitled to wrongful death compensation. Such a lawsuit can be filed against the negligence part with the help of an Illinois car accident lawyer.
