A motorist received a citation this week in Oswego Township, Illinois, for damaging another vehicle with the rear of his semi-truck. According to the accident reports provided by the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred on Thursday, July 2.
The KCSO dispatched deputies to the site of the crash at about 10:12 a.m. after getting reports of a traffic collision. The sheriff’s office confirmed that the accident happened in the area of Route 31 and Caterpillar Dr.
Deputies said the suspect, identified as Gerald Wolfe, was operating a semi-truck. Wolfe allegedly backed his semi against another vehicle in the area, resulting in damages.
The accident reports failed to ascertain whether any motorist or passenger was present in the struck car at the time of the collision. Deputies also failed to disclose if anyone suffered an injury in the accident.
The Kendall County Sheriff’s deputies issued Wolfe a citation for improper backing. No other detail is available at this time.
Improper backing is a class A traffic violation and often results when a motorist reverses in conditions considered unsafe. Traffic regulations guiding the process of backing up vehicles kick against reversing when it would interfere with other traffic.
Yielding the right-of-way to pedestrians and moving traffic when backing up is a good way of preventing potential accidents. Motorists should also avoid reversing on the shoulders of highways, as this poses a threat to pedestrians and other road users.
