Pedestrian Killed On I-290 West Identified as Gloria Sanchez-Perez

Gloria Sanchez-Perez

A series of reports were called into the Illinois State Police on the night of Friday, February 14. They all took place on Interstate 290 West/North Illinois Route 53 regarding a “gold or silver” Toyota Prius. All reports indicated the northwest Schaumburg suburb area.

It was indicated that there may be a possible situation regarding an impaired driver on Interstate 290 near Elk Grove Village and Schaumburg around 10:58 p.m.

Moments later other reports received by the Illinois State Police indicated that the Prius had hit a wall and a woman attempting to cross the busy interstate had been hit by a car.

It did not take the Illinois State Police or the firefighters and paramedics from the Elk Grove Village and Schaumburg areas to respond to the accident call. When they arrived, they found a woman dead in the center lane of Interstate 290.

Her body was transferred to Alexian Brothers Medical Center where her identity was later confirmed as Gloria Sanchez-Perez of Des Plaines.

The Illinois State Police investigators have pieced together that Sanchez-Perez and another woman were traveling on Interstate 290 West, possibly impaired, when they hit a guardrail on the interstate.

Both women attempted to cross the road to the shoulder after the accident. The first woman made it to the shoulder, however, Sanchez-Perez ended up getting hit while in the center lane. They believe she was on the phone trying to call in the accident.

There has been no confirmation on if the women were impaired at the time of the accident. They have also not determined if more than one vehicle ran over the woman in the center of the road.

The investigation is ongoing. All vehicles involved in the incident have been cooperative with the investigative efforts of the Illinois State Police.
