Peoria Grand Jury Indicts Khalil Brown for Reckless Homicide

A grand jury sitting in Peoria, Illinois, on Tuesday, July 14th, indicted a man for an accident that claimed the life of a woman in the city. After the indictment, they filed charges of reckless homicide against Khalil Brown, 22, and he would need the expertise of a top accident lawyer.

The grand jury also filed charges of aggravated driving under the influence against the man. The indictment read that Brown showed a blatant disregard for human life by driving so fast that he failed to avoid a collision with the victim, Katherine Ware. It also stated that the crash unintentionally caused the woman’s death.

The Peoria County Coroner’s Office pronounced Ware dead on Sunday, June 21st, following the crash close to the intersection of SW Jefferson Street and Cass Street. The accident report disclosed that Brown was heading southwest on Jefferson while the victim was attempting to turn from Cass.

The two vehicles collided, and the impact ejected Ware from the truck she was driving. The Peoria Police placed the man under arrest after determining he was intoxicated and remanded him at the Peoria County Jail. On Friday, July 3rd, Brown made bail, and he is scheduled to appear for his arraignment in Peoria County Circuit Court on Wednesday, July 22nd.

Under Illinois laws, a person convicted of a reckless homicide faces imprisonment for a period not less than five and up to $25 000 in fines. If there are aggravating circumstances, the punishment covers up to 28 years in prison.
