A man who lost his life in a bicycle accident was identified by the Peoria County Coroner as Mark J. Stahl aged 60. Stahl died from injuries sustained in a collision between his bicycle and a truck as per the initial accident reports.

The incident that led to Stahl’s death occurred on Thursday, July 23. Stahl was riding his bicycle at the time and traveling westbound on Forest Hill. It was at the intersection of Knoxville that he ran into accident. Just as he was crossing the Knoxville intersection on a green light, a truck was traveling northbound on Knoxville. The truck driver had a red light on the intersection but he disregarded the sign and continued northwards. Consequently, the truck collided with Stahl’s bicycle.

Mark J. Stahl sustained critical injuries in the collision. First responders rushed him to the OSF Saint Francis Medical Center for treatment. However, he couldn’t recover from his injuries and succumbed to them. The County Coroner pronounced him dead at 1:25 p.m. on Thursday.

Authorities initially withheld the identity of Stahl as the accident victim, pending notification to the next-of-kin. The Coroner finally revealed his identity on Friday, a day after the accident had occurred.

Investigations into the incident are still ongoing. For now, the truck driver involved in the incident has been cited for disregarding a traffic control device. However, it can be expected that more serious charges will be brought against him. Final accident reports may reveal the charges that the driver may face.
