Raul Almanza Montoya Injured, Ticketed in Tractor-Trailer Crash

A man was injured in a tractor-trailer crash that took place on Thursday. The man has since been identified by the authorities as Raul Almanza Montoya, 57, of California.

The accident took place less than a mile from Greenup, close to the state border of between Illinois and Indiana. It happened on the Interstate 70 and involved no other vehicles.

Montoya was driving a 2017 Freightliner tractor-trailer at the time. A utility van semitrailer was hitched to the tractor-trailer. Traveling eastbound on I-70, Montoya seems to have lost control of the vehicle. The tractor-trailer than left the roadway and veered to a side, hitting the embankment. The collision tipped over the trailer so that it was overturned to the right. After turning over, the vehicle continued to slide until it came to rest against a fence row. The crash happened late in the evening at around 9:00 p.m.

Montoya sustained injuries in the crash. He was the only person involved in the crash and no other person was injured. As help and rescue personnel arrived on the site of the crash, Montoya was rushed to the Terre Haute Regional Hospital beyond the state border in Terre Haute, Indiana. The extent and severity of Montoya’s injuries are not clear at this time.

Authorities continue to investigate the incident. Investigations are led by the Illinois State Police. Preliminary findings show that Montoya was not driving carefully enough for the road conditions which caused the crash. He has been ticketed by the ISP for improve lane usage.
