Semi Driver Enrique Dejesus Survives Interstate 70 Collision

Enrique Dejesus

The Illinois State Police is investigating a two-vehicle collision that killed one motorist and left another dead. They identified Enrique Dejesus, 53, of Miami, as one of the drivers involved in the Wednesday morning, August 12th, crash on Interstate 70 near Marshall, Illinois.

The car accident report showed that the fatal victim’s car crashed into the injured man’s vehicle while merging onto the interstate. The ISP press release stated that a maroon Pontiac Grand Prix merging into traffic on the eastbound lane of I-70 from Illinois Route 1 lost control for unknown reasons.

The car then spun in front of the blue 2015 Volvo semi-truck driven by Enrique Dejesus. The man was unable to avoid the smaller vehicle and crashed into it. The semi struck the Grand Prix on the driver’s side and pushed it into the median before resting.

The driver of the first car succumbed to severe injuries at the scene, and the Clark County Coroner pronounced the person dead. The ISP would release the victim’s name after notifying the next-of-kin. Dejesus did not sustain any wound in the collision.

The police said the incident led to the closure of the affected roadway for about four hours. There is no additional information at this time.

Traffic accidents occur for several reasons, and they can either be the direct result of negligence or factors beyond the control of the motorist. Drivers must practice safe road habits to prevent collisions and make their safety and other road users a top priority.
