The Peoria County Coroner’s Office identified the motorcycle rider who died in an auto-motorcycle crash in Peoria, Illinois. On Monday, July 6th, the coroner, Jamie Harwood, named Seth T. Guthrie, a 27-year-old resident of Westport as the victim.
The accident that claimed the man’s life occurred on the night of Sunday, July 5th, at about 9:38 p.m. The Peoria Police Department said in the accident report that the collision happened in the 3300-block of North Sterling Avenue. The investigators said that the events leading to the crash began with a car pulling onto Sterling from a driveway.
At the same time, Guthrie was northbound on the same roadway, and he ended up colliding with the car. The man sustained extensive wounds despite wearing a helmet, and the medics pronounced him dead at the scene. The coroner said he suffered multiple blunt force trauma and likely died as soon as he hit the ground.
There will not be an autopsy into the primary cause of death, but a toxicology test is pending. The driver of the vehicle suffered non-life-threatening wounds and received treatment at a local hospital. The PPD is continuing the investigation into the accident.
Auto-motorcycle collisions are not uncommon, and they are one of the leading causes of crash-related deaths. The open design of a motorcycle leaves the rider at a disadvantage and opens the body to severe wounds when it hits the ground. Common injuries associated with this type of accident include traumatic brain injuries (TBI), fractures, broken bones, organ damage, and road rash.
