Sevell Broadnax, Brandon Weatherall Die In Single-Vehicle Wreck Near Roscoe

Authorities have identified the two men killed early Saturday morning in a rollover crash on an interstate near Roscoe.

Sevell D. Broadnax, 28, of Chicago, and Brandon Weatherall, 27, of Rockford, died as a result of injuries sustained in the wreck, according to the Winnebago County Coroner’s Office. Car accident reports state a passenger in the vehicle also was injured, but his wounds aren’t thought to be life-threatening.

Authorities said Broadnax and Weatherall were in a vehicle headed north on Interstate 90 near the Rockton Road tollbooth at about 3 a.m. Saturday when the driver lost control of the vehicle. It wasn’t clear from car accident reports available Sunday which man was behind the wheel at the time.

The vehicle left the roadway and struck a light pole, causing it to roll multiple times, authorities said. Both Broadnax and Weatherall were ejected from the vehicle, according to car accident reports.

The passenger in the back of the vehicle, whom authorities did not publicly identify, was wearing his seatbelt and suffered injuries that aren’t thought to be life-threatening.

The crash is being investigated by the Illinois State Police. Troopers have not yet said whether they suspect factors like speed, inattentive driving or intoxication might have contributed to the incident.

Autopsies on both Broadnax and Weatherall will be conducted by the Winnebago County Coroner’s Office. Investigators said it could take up to three weeks to obtain results from toxicology tests.
