A man was injured in a two-vehicle crash that took place on the Interstate 255 on Tuesday, March 10. The incident took place in the early morning hours, with the authorities notified about it at around 10:20 a.m.
According to the details shared by the authorities, two vehicles were involved in the non-fatal crash that happened in the southbound lanes of the I-255. The two vehicles included a dump truck belonging to the Illinois Department of Transportation. The dump truck was unoccupied at the time of the crash. The other vehicle was a white Nissan Frontier driven by Christopher K. Johnson, 61, of St. Louis.
Close the mile marker 7.6, Johnson crashed into the IDOT truck parked by the roadside. The truck had a crash attenuator on its rear. This was meant to alert the drivers passing by the truck and help ensure the safety of the IDOT workers who were working in the area at the time.
In the wake of the crash, Johnson sustained non-critical injuries. Columbia fire department and EMS personnel responded to the scene of the crash. Johnson was transported to a local hospital for his injuries.
Illinois State Police continued to investigate the crash. In doing so, ISP was assisted by the Columbia police. Preliminary investigations revealed that Johnson’s negligence caused the crash. He was cited for a number of violations, including disregarding a traffic control device, failure to reduce speed to prevent an accident, and the failure to produce a valid insurance card. It is not known whether Johnson has been released from the hospital.
