Authorities have identified the type of car that killed Craig L. Boone in a hit-and-run incident. As per the investigations, the car that caused the incident was likely a Pontiac G5 or Chevrolet Cobalt of red color. The investigators also believe that the model of the vehicle was between 2007 and 2010.
The accident took place on February 4. Craig L. Boone, 39, of Belleville was struck by a vehicle on the St. Clair Avenue and Illinois 157. The car that hit him fled the scene, leaving him dead on the eastbound shoulder. There were no witnesses, so it has been quite hard for the Illinois State Police to identify the vehicle that caused the crash. Investigators are now using the debris from the accident site to determine the make and model of the car that was likely involved.
Using a small piece of headlight that was left on the crash site, the police have now narrowed the type of vehicle that was likely involved. However, it will still take the police some time to ascertain the vehicle involved and then to locate it.
In the meanwhile, Boone’s family arranged a memorial service for him. His sister, Charity Ealy Shonk, spoke at the memorial and remembered her brother as a kind-hearted man. She also appealed that if anyone had any information about the accident, they should immediately contact the police.
Hit-and-run is a serious crime in Illinois and the penalty is particularly severe if the victim dies in the accident. For hit-and-run accidents that result in death, the penalty includes a prison term of 3 to 14 years as per Illinois laws.
