William Martin Hospitalized Following Rollover Accident on Illinois Route 97

On Tuesday, September 8th, a car accident report disclosed that a man was hospitalized following a rollover crash on Illinois Route 97 in the Sangamon County area of Illinois. William Martin, 67, suffered injuries from the morning incident.

According to the Illinois State Police, at about 10 a.m., the man headed east on IR-97, east of Bradfordton Road. In a press release, officials stated that Martin’s car went off the roadway, rolled over, and hit a fence on the right side of the road.

Responding medics took the man to the hospital. The state police did not reveal the extent of the victim’s wounds, but they stated that a passenger in the vehicle, Margaret Martin, was unharmed. There is no additional information.

A motor vehicle accident can lead to minor, severe, or fatal injuries for those involved depending on the collision force. Common injuries sustained in a crash include broken bones, fractures, ligament tears, organ damage, internal bleeding, and head injuries.

Head injuries cover concussions and mild traumatic brain injuries (TBI), intracranial bleeding, bruising, or skull fracture. Depending on the wound’s severity, a person could end up getting a limb amputated or paralyzed if the injuries affected the spinal cord.

Drivers and passengers can mitigate the above by wearing a seatbelt when in transit. Seatbelts keep car occupants in place in case of a collision, prevents ejection, keeps the head from hitting the steering wheel, and aids airbag function.
