Wrongful Death Suits Filed on Behalf of Jack P. DeFrancesco and Rose H. Doneske

Two additional wrongful death lawsuits have been filed against the nursing home Bria of Geneva.

They allege that the facility displayed misconduct during the coronavirus pandemic and this led to the deaths of Jack P. DeFrancesco and Rose H. Doneske.

Two lawsuits were previously filed against the Illinois nursing home. Each suit is requesting a jury trial as well as more than $50,000 in damages.

According to the lawsuit, DeFrancesco’s health deteriorated from around March 27 to April 19, when he was sent to Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital. He passed away at the hospital on April 26 at age 90.

The hospital reportedly told his family that he was positive for COVID-19, he had a kidney infection, and he was extremely dehydrated.

The lawsuit alleges that despite the elderly man’s symptoms and the home’s assumption that he had COVID-19, staff did not isolate him before transferring him to the hospital.

It also claims that Bria of Geneva did not inform DeFrancesco’s family that he was seriously ill because of a COVID-19 infection he contracted at the facility.

The lawsuit was filed on behalf of DeFrancesco’s widow Frances G. DeFrancesco.

Meanwhile, Doneske also passed away at age 90 on April 28.

According to that lawsuit, her health deteriorated rapidly between March 27 and April 17. On or around the latter date, she was transferred to Delnor Hospital.

When Doneske was admitted to hospital, her family was told she was COVID-positive and she had low blood oxygen levels and a high fever.

The lawsuit claims that despite her symptoms, she was not isolated before her transfer.

Doneske was reportedly transferred back to Bria of Geneva on or around April 24. According to her lawsuit, she had no fever at that time and her blood oxygen levels had improved.

However, the lawsuit claims her health once again deteriorated rapidly until the day she died.
