Stefon Thomas Killed In Randolph Crash

Authorities have identified the man killed Sunday night in a single-vehicle crash near Randolph.

Stefon C. Thomas, 32, of Brockton, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash on Massachusetts 24, according to a release from the Massachusetts State Police. No other vehicles were involved in the incident and no additional injuries were reported.

Authorities at about 8:20 p.m. Sunday were called to Massachusetts 24 northbound near Exit 20 in Randolph to investigate a report of a vehicle that had gone off the road. First responders found a vehicle that had crashed into a tree not far from where a mattress was laying in a roadway, car accident reports state.

The vehicle’s only occupant, identified later as Thomas, was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. The mattress was removed from the roadway and the incident remains under investigation by crash reconstruction experts.

“It is unclear at this time if the mattress on the roadway was a contributing factor to the crash,” troopers wrote in a press release.

Car accident reports did not say whether other factors, such as speed or intoxication, might have contributed to the wreck. Authorities also did not say how they believe the mattress ended up on the roadway.

Multiple agencies assisted state police investigators at the scene. They included the Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office, the state police Crime Scene Services Section, the Randolph Fire and Emergency Medical Services departments and the Massachusetts Department of Transportation.
