Authorities have made an arrest in connection to the hit-and-run crash Saturday night that killed an Edmore woman.
Patricia Buskirk, 50, sustained serious injuries in the crash, which occurred at about 7:15 p.m. Saturday on Stanton Road in Montcalm County, according to the Michigan State Police. She was pronounced dead at an area hospital soon after.
Authorities said Buskirk was a passenger in a sedan that was stopped on Stanton Road on Saturday, waiting to turn onto Wyman Road, when the vehicle was struck from behind by a pickup truck. The driver of the truck allegedly fled the scene before emergency responders arrived.
Michigan State Police later identified the driver of the pickup truck as a 23-year-old Carson City man, whom they did not identify publicly. He is in custody and charges reportedly are pending.
Authorities said they believe the truck’s speed and alcohol might have been factors in the crash. Specific charges weren’t immediately announced.
A 19-year-old woman who was driving the sedan in which Buskirk was a passenger also suffered injuries in the crash, according to authorities. She is expected to recover.
The Michigan State Police still is investigating the incident. Anyone with information is asked to call the agency’s Lakeview Post at 989-352-8444.
