Jammal Dillard Killed In Single-Vehicle Wreck In Easton Township

Justin Mechem

Authorities have identified the man killed Tuesday evening when he lost control of his vehicle on a highway in Ionia County and crashed into a tree.

Jammal Dillard, 39, of Cedar Springs, died as a result of injuries suffered in the crash, which was reported shortly after 6 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Michigan State Police. No other vehicles were involved, and no other injuries were listed in car accident reports.

Authorities said Dillard was driving west on Bluewater Highway at about 6:10 p.m. Tuesday when he lost control of his vehicle. The vehicle went off the roadway near Johnson Road in Easton Township and struck a tree, according to car accident reports.

Dillard was transported by emergency medical responders to an area hospital where he later was pronounced dead as a result of his injuries. Car accident reports said Dillard was alone in his vehicle at the time of the wreck.

The incident is under investigation by the Michigan State Police. Troopers told local media outlets that they suspect speed was a factor in the crash.

It is unclear whether additional factors, such as intoxication or inattentive driving, might have contributed to the incident.  Additional car accident reports with more details likely are forthcoming.

Troopers were assisted at the scene by Saranac Fire Rescue, Life Ambulance, the Ionia County Sheriff’s Department and Ionia County Central Dispatch, according to a press release.
