One man died in a traffic accident that took place in Upper Peninsula, Chippewa County on April 2, Thursday. The accident involved a collision between a passenger vehicle and a pickup truck. Preliminary accident reports show that one fatality was involved.
According to the details shared by the Michigan State Police, the incident took place on Thursday afternoon. Authorities were notified of the crash around 1 p.m.
The truck accident came about when a man was leaving a private driveway on his vehicle. As he drove from the driveway onto the Mackinac Trail in Michigan, his vehicle came into the path of a pickup truck. The truck then collided into the passenger vehicle.
The driver of the passenger vehicle was identified as Joe Mongene, 84. The identity of the pickup truck driver was not revealed by the MSP.
Mongene suffered critical injuries in the collision. By the time the first responders and law enforcement arrived on the scene of the crash, Mongene had already succumbed to the injuries. He was pronounced dead at the crash scene.
At this point, it is not known whether the pickup truck driver sustained any injuries in the collision. Investigations into the crash are still ongoing. Michigan State Police is leading the investigations with help from local authorities.
