In a head-on collision that took place on the night of Tuesday, March 3, one woman lost her life. The victim of the tragic incident has been identified as Josefina Jarquin-Altamirano, 35, of Wyoming.
According to the details shared by the Wyoming Department of Public Safety, the accident was reported at 7:35 p.m. on Tuesday. It happened at the intersection of the Buchanan Avenue SW and 35th Street SW. A vehicle was traveling northbound on the Buchanan Avenue when the driver seems to have lost control of it. The vehicle then apparently drove across the center line and hit the southbound vehicle.
Josefina Jarquin-Altamirano was the driver of the southbound vehicle involved in the head-on collision. Following the crash, Altamirano sustained critical injuries and died at the scene of the accident. The driver of the other vehicle was also critically injured in the crash. A 10-year-old who was a passenger in one of the vehicle also incurred serious injuries and remained under treatment.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident to better understand how it occurred. Preliminary investigations show that speed was a major factor in the crash. The driver of the northbound apparently lost control of the vehicle due to speeding and that was when the vehicle entered the path of the southbound traffic, causing the crash. However, a more concrete cause will be determined once the investigations conclude.
Police have not revealed the identity of the other driver or the passenger who were critically injured in the crash. The nature and severity of their injuries also remains unknown.
