Authorities have identified Norine Gilbertson, 85, of Genesee Township as the fatality in an accident that took place on Thursday, February 27. The accident took place in Burton.

According to the details shared by the Burton Police Department, the crash happened on the North Genesee Road. It involved the head-on collision of two vehicles. One of these vehicles was a grey Chevy Equinox which was traveling southbound on the road at the time of the collision. The driver of the Equinox apparently lost control of the vehicle. The car fishtailed, then veered across the center line and came into the path of the oncoming traffic in the northbound lane.

It was then that the Equinox came into a head-on collision with a maroon Chevy Equinox. The drivers of both vehicles involved in the crash sustained injuries. Norine Gilberston was the elderly passenger traveling as the second occupant in the maroon Equinox at the time of the collision. She sustained critical injuries and died at the scene.

The injured drivers were transported to the Hurley Medical Center in Flint. According to the latest reports from the authorities, both drivers were being treated for non-critical injuries at the medical facility.

Following the incident, a portion of the North Genesee Road was shut down. This included the stretch of the road from Thornton Driver to the Old Genesee Road. The accident remains under investigation and Burton Police Department is leading the investigations. In doing so, it is being assisted by other agencies including Michigan State Police.
