In a truck rollover accident that took place on Friday, March 6, the driver sustained serious injuries. The victim has been identified as Robert Rudnick Junior, 61, of Whitehall.
The accident took place in the Shelby Township of Oceana County on the U.S. 31. Robert Rudnick was driving his 2008 Chevrolet Avalanche pickup truck southbound on the road. He was traveling at a speed of around 45mph when due to the adverse conditions of the road he lost control of the truck. The roadway had a slushy surface due to snow.
The accident took place at around 6:30 a.m. on Friday. Rudnick was less than a mile from the West Hayes Road at the time. As he lost control of the truck, the vehicle moved from the right lane of the southbound road towards the left lane. The truck then left the roadway and moved to the median side of the road. It was then that the truck turned over and rolled several times before coming to a stop.
Rudnick sustained serious injuries in the crash. He was wearing a seatbelt at the time, which probably saved him from being ejected during the rollover. He was transported to the Mercy Health Partners Lakeshore Campus on an ambulance where he remains under treatment.
The Oceana County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the incident. Preliminary investigations reveal that alcohol or drug were not factors in the accident. Initial reports also show that driving too fast for the road conditions was the likely reason of the crash.
