Tanner Dutmer Dies, Amber Mims Critically Injured in Two-Vehicle Crash in Osceola County

The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office responded to a fatal two-vehicle collision that occurred on US-10 roadway, Osceola County, Michigan, on Thursday, May 7. The crash left Tanner John-Lewis Dutmer, 22, dead, and Amber Marie Mims, 34, critically injured. Accident reports state that the collision led to the closure of the US-10 for several hours.

Dutmer was traveling west on US-10 when he passed by a vehicle that was turning left into a driveway. He crossed the center line and collided with an eastbound vehicle, causing him to sustain fatal injuries. Mims, a Reed City woman, was the driver of the eastbound vehicle. She also sustained severe injuries as a result of the crash.

When first responders and paramedics arrived at the scene, they pronounced Dutmer dead. Medics also transported Mims via an Aeromed to Butterworth Hospital, where she remains in critical condition. Investigators revealed that distracted driving was a factor in the collision.

The Osceola County EMS, Evart Fire and Rescue, Hersey Fire Department, Reed City Fire and Rescue, and Michigan State Police assisted the Osceola Sheriff’s Office in conducting rescue operations and managing the situation.

The US-10 road was closed at about 10:10 p.m., and remained closed for several hours before its reopening at about 3:30 a.m. on Friday, May 8.
