Teenager, Lexi Simon, Killed in Fenton Watercraft Accident

Authorities pronounced a teenage girl deceased on Sunday, May 24, after a personal watercraft she was driving encountered an accident. Accident reports obtained from the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the fatal collision happened on a waterway in Fenton, Michigan.

In a news release, the Genesee County Sheriff, Chris Swanson, revealed that the accident occurred just before 2:45 p.m. It happened on Lake Fenton, on the southwest side of Moose Lodge, officers said.

Investigators determined the fatal victim, identified as Lexi Simon, 17, of Fenton, was riding one of two personal watercraft soaring near the right end of Lake Fenton. Simon’s boyfriend, name withheld, was occupying the second watercraft directly behind the teen girl.

Simon suddenly stopped or slowed down her personal watercraft, causing the other driver to crash into her as he failed to halt on time. The impact knocked the teenager off her vehicle, into the surrounding waters.

Witnesses told police the young man accompanying the victim jumped into the lake after Simon in a bid to rescue her. Emergency responders then transported the girl to Ascension Genesys Hospital, in Grand Blanc Township with fatal injuries. She died while receiving treatment, and medical personnel at the facility pronounced her dead at precisely 6:52 p.m.

Investigative findings suggested the fatal victim may have pulled over to observe someone who fell off a tube near her personal watercraft. Impairment does not appear to be a factor in the mishap, deputies affirmed in the accident reports.
