In a fatal accident that took place on February 6, police have now identified the victim as Whitney Morgan Skaggs, 33, of Harrison. The accident happened in the Highland Township area on the M-115.
According to the details shared by the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, Skaggs was involved in a three-vehicle accident that took place on the early evening of the first Thursday of the month. Her vehicle first collided with a semi-tractor trailer and then collided a second time with another car. She was driving a Chevrolet S-10 pickup at the time and sustained critical injuries as a result of the collisions. Once the rescue personnel arrived on the scene, Skaggs was pronounced dead.
As per the investigations later conducted by the authorities, the accident took place when Skaggs crossed the center line and came into the path of the oncoming traffic. She was traveling westbound and it was in the eastbound lane that she collided with the trailer. The exact cause of the accident has not been confirmed so far although weather is considered a key factor.
The M-115 remained closed for nearly 5 hours following the accident. The driver of the trailer and the passengers in the other car hit by Skaggs remained safe and incurred no injuries. A number of law enforcement and other agencies contributed in the investigation and cleanup of the accident. These include Marion Fire and Rescue, Michigan State Police, Mecosta County EMS, Meceola Central Dispatch, Osceola County EMS and the Evart Fire Department.
