73-Year-Old Syrril Baker Dies in Crash on U.S. 50


The Nevada Highway Patrol has named the driver who was killed on Wednesday in a crash on U.S. 50 near Mound House.

According to accident reports, she is 73-year-old Syrril Baker of Silver Springs.

Police say Baker was heading east on U.S. 50 near Highlands Drive in a green 1999 Honda CR-V.

The driver of a red 2011 Subaru Legacy had slowed down to turn right onto Highlands Drive. 

Baker crossed into the next eastbound lane for reasons which have not been determined and hit the Subaru.

The Honda rolled several times and Baker was ejected. Police say she was not wearing a seatbelt and she died on the spot.  The deceased was the sole person in the Honda.

Meanwhile, there were two people in the Subaru, and they received minor injuries. Their names were not released.

Anyone who saw the crash or has information has been asked to email the Nevada Highway Patrol Multi-Disciplinary Investigation and Reconstruction Team and make reference to case #200400688.

Traffic fatalities in Nevada declined significantly in 2019.

According to statistics from Nevada’s Office of Traffic Safety, there were 284 road deaths for the calendar year. This was 45 fewer than the previous year.

Deaths in Clark County dropped from 225 to 180 while fatalities in Washoe County declined from 44 to 35. However, there were four fatalities in Carson City, up from two in 2018 and five in Douglas County, an increase of three over 2018.

For 2020 so far, there has been a decline in accident reports in Nevada.
