On Tuesday, February 4, 34-year old Alanna Marie Perez died after losing control of her 2003 Ford Mustang as she drove north on Howard Hughes Parkway. The unfortunate incident occurred in a corporate center between Flamingo Road and Sands Avenue, about one mile east of the Las Vegas strip.

Perez’s vehicle hit a palm tree around 11:30 pm on the driver’s side. She was taken to Sunrise Medical Center by paramedics, where she passed away.

Alanna Perez is the sixteenth person to die in a traffic accident in Las Vegas metro area so far this year. Authorities are concerned about these developments as this is so far a record.

The victim’s last address is not known.

One day earlier – Wednesday, February 5 – a 1992 Buick Park Avenue went off road, hitting a cinder block wall. The driver, whose identity remains unknown, died on the spot. He was 63 years old, from Las Vegas. Thankfully, he was alone in the car.

The accident occurred south of El Campo Grande Avenue. He was driving north on Durango Drive.

According to news reports, witnesses and officers on scene tried to help him. He was transported to Centennial Hills Hospital, where he died. Until the cause of death is ascertained, law enforcement will not establish this incident as a traffic-related fatality.

In Nevada, people who flee the scene of an accident can be charged under the Nevada crime of hit and run (NRS 484E.010).
