A news release was published on February 17, one day after the announcement came that 12-year-old Alex Bush had succumbed to his injuries from being hit by a Dodge Ram truck, showing a vigil that has been placed to honor him.
The accident occurred on the afternoon of February 14, when 12-year-old Alex and his 9-year-old sister Charlotte were in a crosswalk with flashing lights when they were hit by 47-year-old Mark Kline who was driving a Dodge Ram pickup truck.
The accident happened near Somerset Academy on Lone Mountain where there were several smaller children walking, but only the siblings were struck.
The reports from the North Las Vegas Police Department indicate that Kline was distracted at the time of the accident.
As it turns out, the family has released a statement that Kline lives just down the street from the family. He knows the kids and the family well.
Kline was taken to the Las Vegas city jail where he was charged with failure to maintain a lane, distracted driving, and two counts of failure to use due care around pedestrians.
Both children were taken to University Medical Center where Alex died on Sunday. His sister, Charlotte is still currently in the hospital and has been classified as having life-threatening injuries.
The charges against Kline were upgraded to include vehicular manslaughter on Sunday with the death of Alex Bush.
The community plans to address the crosswalk and the other dangers that the children in the community seem to possibly face on a daily basis. They want to make sure that they are remaining safe at all times.
