Alex Solomon Arrested for Assaulting an Older Person in Las Vegas Shopping Center

On Friday, August 7th, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department revealed they arrested a man connected with an elder abuse case in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Clark County Detention Centre records show that officers booked Alex Deontae Solomon into the jail on Thursday, April 6th.

The suspect assaulted a disabled older person at a shopping center on the east side of the city on Thursday, July 30th. The 77-year-old man walked into a shopping center on the 1300-block of East Flamingo, pushing a shopping cart, when Solomon assaulted him for no reason.

According to the LVMPD investigators, the suspect walked toward the victim as he was about to enter the store and punched him in the head without provocation. At the time, the police could not identify the man, and they released video surveillance and still photos in an attempt to find him.

They found and took Solomon into custody without incident in the 5400-block of Maryland Parkway on suspicion of abuse of an older/vulnerable person. There are no further details at this time.

Under Nevada law, it is a crime to abuse, neglect, or exploit persons 60 years and above. Prosecutors charge elder abuse either as a gross misdemeanor or class C felony, and it carries up to 5 years in prison and up to $10 000 in fines. If the older person suffers substantial bodily or mental harm, then the penalty can increase to 20 years of imprisonment.
